Throughout the past year Electronic House has written about some of the most amazing custom home theaters in the country. Many of these show up as winners in our annual Home of the Year competition, while others are covered in the magazine and website in various ways.
Why do we love home theaters so much? Is it the powerful home theater projectors and huge projection screens that make any TV look puny? Is it the awesome audio systems filling the room? Is it the reclining seats? It’s all of that. It’s the epitome of a movie-lover’s paradise. It’s a place where a person can retreat from their normal lives and enter a completely new world, surrounded by the huge screen and audio system. Particularly special home theaters are more than just rooms with large TVs. Their design and system implementation, all the way down to how the home automation system controls the lights, expresses the personality and tastes of the owners.
Here’s a roundup of some of my favorite home theaters of the year. Click on the individual links for more details and inside photos of these great rooms. Will your home theater be featured on Electronic House next year?

Outdoor Extreme Home Theater
When a home is blessed with a 400-square-foot lanai decorated with lush landscaping and a luxurious swimming pool, what else could possibly be incorporated into the space? Does a 180-inch screen for an outdoor theater come to mind?
Theater Built for Gaming and Movies
This family-friendly theater incorporates two large LCD TVs for dual gaming, plus a large projection screen for movie time.

Every home theater is unique, but few are as unique and elegant as the room that Acoustic Smart and Audio Interiors created for this Sagaponack, N.Y., home.

When the tech-savvy owners of this beautiful Texas Hill Country abode decided to remodel, a home theater with a larger-than-life 4K Ultra HD system was at the top of their wish list.
