Just about every TV manufacturer has announced an Ultra HD (4K) option this year. Apparently, Bang & Olufsen has been waiting to deliver something special. That something is the BeoVision Avant.
The BeoVision Avant is B&O’s first entry into the 4K smart TV market and it’s a good one. The 55-incher combines an eye-popping 4K image for a home theater or media room with the company’s slick style. Of course, B&O products usually have an equally eye-popping price tag, but the company has listed this one at $7,995 — which is a little on the high side, but not completely insane for the 4K category.
For that price, the BeoVision Avant does have a few surprises, but the best is the disappearing sound panel. This keeps the audio hidden when the TV is not in use, but allows the unit to belt out some serious sound when needed. That comes from the TV’s three dedicated tweeters, three midrange units and two bass drivers. It also has an integrated 7.1 surround sound module, in case you want to connect external speakers directly to the TV (or go wireless, via Immaculate Wireless Sound).
B&O has also given the BeoVision Avant a new stand, which allows for wall, floor and table placement (but only with a separate purchase). It also turns, so you can tilt the TV toward whatever spot you feel is the sweetest. Then, it easily goes back into place when you’re finishing viewing.
Besides the above bells and whistles, this is an Ultra HD TV, with an edge-type LED panel with 1.5 local backlight dimming and a 3840 x 2160 resolution. Other features include anti-reflection coatings on both sides of the screen and Chromatic Room Adaptation, which can automatically adjust the image based on room conditions. The TV also comes with the BeoRemote One, which has the MyButtons feature for up to three personalized settings using one simple touch.
“People are pressed for time, and they want entertainment that just works so they can focus on it — and each other — rather than the technology itself,” said Tue Mantoni, B&O’s CEO. “BeoVision Avant delivers on all counts. The name Avant is a nod to our most successful TV to date, the Avant launched in 1995. Just as the first Avant was a game changer in an analogue era, we believe the new BeoVision Avant will set the standard for what should be expected from a television in the future”.
Available as a 55-inch model, the BeoVision Avant is now available for $7,995. The aforementioned placement options for the wall, table and floor are also available, starting at $895.
