The award-winning system can stream up to five devices without cables.

Back in January, we announced our list for the Electronic House 2012 “Product of the Year” awards. Now, it looks like one of our picks can be one of your picks.

Atlona just announced plans to start shipping the LinkCast Wireless HD Audio/Video System. This slim little device allows users to put content from up to five HD sources on any big screen, without all of the cable clutter.

It makes all of that wireless magic via support for the HDCP 1.2 and WHDI 1.0 protocols, with a plug-and-play setup process.

The full LinkCast system includes the AV base station (AT-LINKCASTAV), one expander (AT-LINKCAST-HTX), and an IR remote. That should get you streaming one product. If you want to add in the aforementioned five sources, you’ll have to add in expanders (sold separately) — one per device.

Other features include MIMO technology for HD picture and sound (up to eight channels), 40 feet of coverage, and support for 3D and 1080p.

“LinkCast is a game-changer for consumers as well as residential A/V installations,” said Ilya Khayn, Atlona’s president and CEO. “Previous wireless connectivity solutions simply haven’t been a viable option for most systems. LinkCast is different in that it utilizes the WHDI 1.0 protocol for wireless delivery of uncompressed video throughout the home at resolutions up to 1080p. It surpasses competitive technologies by providing 3D support and expandability to all connected sources, low latency, multiroom availability, low power consumption, and outstanding and consistent picture quality that’s equivalent to wired HDMI cable.”

Atlona is selling the LinkCast Wireless HD Audio/Video System now, with an MSRP of $299.99. Additional expanders are also available for $149.99 each.
