Any day now, we’ll start to see a flood of Dolby Atmos products. Atlantic Technology will be squeezing into the insanity, with a new type of speaker known as the 44-DA Speaker Module.

The hook on the 44-DA is that it works with new and existing home theaters, adding in Dolby Atmos sound.

Dolby Atmos is an audio format that can deliver clear, lifelike sound from all sorts of directions — including above. Promising a truly immersive audio experience, it was previously limited to select movie theaters. Now, it’s coming to the home.

The 44-DA includes a 5.25-inch woofer and a 1-inch silk dome tweeter in a concentric driver array (CDA), which fires from the top of the speaker at a predetermined angle. That’s what provides the Dolby Atmos effect. Atlantic Technology also promises to broaden the sweet spot, by reflecting sound off the ceiling. That should also result in more installation choices within the listening space.

Measuring 5.5-by-8.38-by-9.5 inches, the 44-DA can work alone or when paired with another speaker. In fact, it fits perfectly on top of Atlantic’s THX-certified 4400LR speaker (go figure!), creating a “one-piece” look.

Atlantic Technology will start selling the 44-DA speaker module sometime in Q4 2014. It has an MSRP of $499 per pair.
