It seems to be a good year for budget projectors. Epson, BenQ and others are all offering high definition home entertainment projectors for under $1,000, and now Acer has joined that group with the H5370BD.
The H5370BD is a single-chip DLP projector with a 720p resolution. If all the recent talk about 4K resolution makes 720p sound downright ancient, remember that what you get from your high-def DVR is either 1080i or 720p.

Acer says the new projector can shine up to 2,500 ANSI lumens brightness and 13,000:1 contrast ratio.
As a budget projector, you don’t get nice setup features like lens shift, but it does have a manual 1.1x zoom and auto keystone correction.
Two HDMI inputs, plus a variety of legacy inputs allow connection flexibility.
Acer’s ColorSafe II+ feature is designed to eliminates color decay after prolonged use and uses dynamic RGB gain control to better secure color fidelity. Acer ColorBoost improves optical color performance based on lamp spectrum and color wheel properties, which enhance the natural color temperature for optimal color balance and brightness. The projector also includes 2D to 3D conversion, though we’re not sure why you’d use it.
In ExtremeEco mode the lamp is said to last 10,000 hours (normal mode lamp life is 5,000 hours).
The H5370BD is available for $549, 3D glasses not included.
