Adding security into the home just keeps getting easier. Even better, it keeps getting more affordable. A company named Y-Cam is adding to those inexpensive options with two new wireless products, HomeMonitor and the Cube. Both will be on hand at next week’s 2013 International CES.
HomeMonitor is a plug-and-play system that should take only minutes to install. Just connect the HomeMonitor camera to your home network via WiFi or Ethernet. From there, create an online account and start peeping through any web-enabled computer or smartphone. No monthly fees are required.
Another nifty option is that the HomeMonitor is available for both indoor and outdoor applications. The HomeMonitor Indoor setup has an MSRP of $199.99, with the HomeMonitor Outdoor package going for $349.99. Both offer free services, including 7 free days of cloud storage and unlimited email alerts. If you want to keep that storage option after the 7 days are up, expect to pay $39.99 per camera per year.
For something slightly more compact, the company says that the Cube is “a professional grade, indoor IP camera.” It offers the remote viewing and recording, but also includes options for a microSD slot or NAS. Three versions of the Cube will be available: VGA (640 x 480 resolution) and HD (720p and full HD 1080p) — in either black or white.
All of the Cube models include night vision, automatic IR cut filter operation, and support for PC and Mac use. Y-Cam will start shipping the Cube in February, with prices ranging from $199.99 to $349.99.
