Door locks are one of the first line of defense when it comes to protecting a home. Surveillance cameras can offer an extra layer of security. Together, the two security devices can provide even greater peace of mind.
Panasonic and Schlage have teamed up to develop a system that combines IP cameras with a wireless-controlled door lock for a completely new way of
keeping a home safe and secure 24/7 through unique remote monitoring and control capabilities. Using any web-enabled device, like a cell phone or
laptop computer, users can view real-time images captured by Pansonic’s BL-C111 IP surveillance camera. Then, using the same phone or computer, the
user can instruct the Schlage lock to disengage, unlocking the door for children arriving home from school, a housekeeper or babysitter. The Panasonic camera offers ability to visually confirm through the Panasonic camera before unlocking the door.
The keyless lock can also be disengaged by entering a code into its built-in keypad. Each user can be assigned a different code. Whenever a code is entered, the lock can send a text or email notification, making it possible to monitor when children arrive home from school, for example.
Both the Panasonic IP camera and the Schlage lock communicate via wireless Z-Wave technology, and may eventually be sold in kit form at electronics
retailers.
