There’s certainly no shortage of smart lock options out there. However, some of them are… well, sort of ugly. If looks are just as important as security to you, check out the Friday. This latest smart lock is just as stylish as it is tough.
Measuring a mere 3.1 inches wide and 1.87 inches high, the Friday boasts a smaller form factor than most smart lock products currently on the market. Designed in collaboration with the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), it also looks sort of cool. That’s because the Friday smart lock has options for stainless steel, unglazed porcelain, gunmetal, bronze and oiled wood. The shell is even interchangeable, so you can give it a new look anytime you want.
It’s equally as high-tech, packing in WiFi and Bluetooth out of the box. That means you can access keyless entry while approaching the door or pop the lock from half-way around the world. However, the Friday smart lock also supports Apple HomeKit and Thread, which means that the company is definitely expecting the Friday to be part of the bigger, more automated picture.
Promising an easy install, the Friday works with most U.S. single cylinder deadbolts. It also has a replaceable lithium battery that has an expected 1-year battery life. And since it’s made to actually go on the inside of the door, it shouldn’t attract any sort of attention. Once installed, the Friday will work with Android and iOS devices. Besides locking and unlocking the door, the Friday can alert you if someone tries to get in the door. It also allows you to grant temporary access, one-time access, or permanent access—all from the Friday dashboard.
Currently, the Friday smart lock is available for pre-order on Indiegogo. The campaign only has a few days left, so you’d better act quickly if you want to snag the $119 pre-order price. Once the Friday starts shipping in Q3 2015, that price will go up to $249.
