Home security doesn’t have to be high-tech to be effective. D-Link just announced the Cloud Camera 5000, which couldn’t be easier to set up and use.

The D-Link Cloud Camera 5000 (also known as the DCS-5222L) sounds very similar to the Dropcam HD that we reviewed a while back. The DCS-5222L promises around-the-clock surveillance, with 720p HD video recording at speeds of up to 30 fps. It includes pan, tilt and digital zoom functions, as well as motion-sensing and night-vision.

It also offers surveillance from anywhere, using the free mydlink app and an iPhone, iPad or compatible Android device.

One nifty perk is that the DCS-5222L has a microSD card slot, so users can record pictures and video without a monthly fee, a separate computer or network storage. Other features include built-in Ethernet and Wireless N connectivity, a 1.0 lux CMOS sensor, two-way audio, and a view of up to 340 degrees. It can also be preset to automatically view specific locations and comes with its own remote.

“There’s no doubt that we have a lot to value — from new little ones to pets to valued possessions to keeping an eye on the small business while you’re away,” said Daniel Kelley, D-Link’s associate vice president of marketing. “The new Cloud Camera 5000 offers people an effective, affordable home or small business surveillance solution that can be up and running in no time. And, the camera’s new capabilities, including remote pan and tilt, the clarity of HD 720p video and on camera recording of video to advanced night vision technology, the Cloud Camera 5000 gives customers added control and peace of mind 24/7.”

To set up the camera, just place it wherever you want it and D-Link Zero Configuration can connect the device with the touch of a button or by plugging in an Ethernet cable.

D-Link just started selling the Cloud Router 5000 (DCS-5222L) Camera with an MSRP of $249.99.
