It’s nice to be able to peek in on your home 24/7, but do you really need recorded video of an empty backyard clogging your cloud storage?
Butterfleye doesn’t think so. This simple, stylish DIY home security camera is hoping to stand out by promising to not capture every moment of every day.
Instead, the wireless camera uses Activity Based Recording (ABR) to snag only those moments when humans, pets, or specific sounds are detected. The Butterfleye taps into infrared, WiFi, Bluetooth and even cloud technologies to make the magic. Then once movements are made, the camera will start recording and send an alert out to your smartphone.
That ABR feature also works with video analytics, as well as motion, audio, light, and accelerometer sensors, to learn all about your routines and habits. That way, you’ll get smarter notifications over time.
Designed to go anywhere in the home, the Butterfleye DIY home security camera also provides a real-time peek anytime you want it. The device has an app that works with both iOS and Android devices. And yes, this DIY home security camera is truly wireless. It uses a rechargeable lithium ion battery to deliver access for up to two weeks. This allows you to place the Butterfleye anywhere in the home.
Other features include 1080p recording, two-way audio, and 12 hours’ worth of internal storage. The company provides one day of free rolling cloud storage, but there are also paid options available for 7 days and 30 days’ worth of rolling storage.
“My home is my sanctuary and after multiple break-ins, I found myself looking for a way to protect it,” says Ben Nader, CEO and founder of Butterfleye. “With Butterfleye, we have designed something that offers peace of mind to people no matter where they are.”
Currently, the Butterfleye is creating a lot of buzz on Indiegogo. At last peek, the company’s crowdfunding campaign had raised more than four times the $100K fundraising goal. To secure a Butterfleye DIY home security camera, just pledge a minimum of $199 before the campaign ends. Backers can expect to receive the first shipments sometime in December 2015.
