We’ve seen a lot of smart bulb options that can pack a sound system into a very compact package. It’s sort of a fun product for a niche audience. However, the Sengled Boost features a little something that everyone can use: better WiFi.
The Sengled Boost is a combination LED smart bulb and WiFi repeater. It actually has two antennas inside, both of which can bump your network’s throughput data exchange rate up to around 300Mbps. This is perfect for those dead zones in the house where you can’t get WiFi or even areas that seem less than optimal. And all you have to do is screw the bulb into an existing light socket.
Of course, it needs to be connected to your network as well. Compatible with most smartphones, tablets and computers with the WiFi IEEE 802.11b/g/n standard at 2.4GHz, the Sengled Boost also works with the Boost app for iOS and Android devices. That allows you to take advantages of remote control lighting functions, including dimming and the ability to control lights individually or as a group.
Other Sengled Boost features include 6 watts on the light, which also has 470 lumens and 3000K color temperature (warm white), as well as the option to be placed up to 115 feet from the router.
There’s no word on when the Sengled Boost will start shipping. However, the company has priced a single bulb at $50.
