The Philips hue is certainly one of the most popular smart bulb options on the market today. People seem to love the colors, the functionality, and the fact that there are so many compatible apps and other things you can do with this automated lighting system.
The one thing people don’t love all that much? The Philips hue Starter Kit runs about $199. However, a new company is looking to be exactly like the Philips hue, without the Philips hue price. Say “hello” to mimoodz.
Mimoodz is a new smart LED light bulb that you can control with your smartphone. It also has all of the colors of the rainbow, just like the Philips hue—millions of them, to be exact. Besides the colors, mimoodz will allow you to turn lights on and off, as well as dim them.
Mimoodz is a 6-watt LED bulb with 470 lumens and a color temperature of 2,700 Kelvin. One mimoodz app can control up to nine bulbs at once. You can add more, but according to the company, you won’t be able to control all of them simultaneously.
Other features include the option to set mimoodz to music, the ability to control the bulb with your old light switch, and the promise of up to 20 years of use. It’s also really easy to use; just screw in the bulb, download the app, and start adjusting.
One way that the mimoodz differs from the Philips hue is that it uses Bluetooth 4.0 technology. That means you will only be able to control mimoodz in your house; there’s no option for remote control. Another way mimoodz is different from the Philips hue? It’s insanely inexpensive.
More Alternatives to Philips Hue Lights
Currently, the company is taking pre-orders for mimoodz on Kickstarter, with an early-bird price of $19 each. However, the more bulbs you order, the lower the price drops, with a max of nine going for a minimum of $117 (that’s $13 each!). The campaign will run through June 17, 2015. After that, backers can expect to receive their mimoodz sometime in September 2015.

Ummm, what?! Are you seriously not aware that Kickstarter is NOT A STORE. Any items listed as “Rewards” are NOT “sales” and can thus not have meaningful retail prices. The funding contribution levels are not “insanely cheap”, they are arbitrary monetary amounts set to lure people into taking a huge risk on a non-existent product.
Hundreds of Kickstarter and IndieGogo campaigns fail to deliver the “Rewards” months or ever years after the estimated dates, and yet publications like yours continue to promote these risky ventures as if they were comparable to extremely established manufacturers and retailers (Philips!).
Please be more accurate and responsible in your reporting. Thank-you.

I backed mimoodz on Kickstarter as what they tell sounds promising to me. They actually got funded with more than 50K in the end (so I’m not the only one convinced) and the team informed us that we will receive the bulbs in Sep/Oct 2015. So they confirmed once more what they stated on Kickstarter. Regarding pricing: it’s true Kickstarter is not a store and that products are priced as rewards. However as I see they have a planned retail price of $25 only and this is really just a fraction compared to all the others, like Philips HUE or LIFX … Looking forward what will happen. Think they have a good chance with their high quality/low price approach. Compare it to Philips HUE: you pay more than $200 for a starter set (you need a hub). For $200 you already get 8!! mimoodz bulbs.

There are many manufacturers out there with like products the startup Mimoodz is late to the game. Just do a little research Hue has created the buzz but is not the only solution available others like Awox, Sengled, Aubig , Feit, creative motion, propel, robosmart etc… some have remotes some have apps , speakers, cameras, deiffusers all kinds of stuff.. Mimoodz has a long way to go with so many in the market for a year now
