Motorized shades and automatic blinds are a real luxury, even for the Electronic House. It’s awesome to be able to shield yourself from the sun in the summertime, access free heat in the winter, and just open and close shades on a daily basis without having to tour the entire house.
What makes them a luxury is that most people already have some type of shades and unless you’re starting from scratch, they usually aren’t automated—and not always the thing you’re looking to replace right away.
That’s what makes products like Teptron’s Move so great. The teeny-tiny add-on can turn existing shades into automatic blinds very easily. It’s actually a little motor that uses the power of Bluetooth to control all of those blinds and shades.
According to Teptron, the Move is designed to fit as many different manually controlled indoor blinds and shades as possible, as long as they have a cord or bead chain. Just attach the Move to those existing cords and fasten it using a wall bracket or dual-sided tape. The device gets power from any four AAA batteries, but comes with a solar panel and rechargeable batteries so you won’t have to worry about charging and changing batteries all the time.
You will need one Move device for every one of those chains in the house. Once everything is connected, just download the app to your iOS or Android device. (An app for the Windows Phone is expected soon.) Not only can you manually control the shades from your favorite portable, but there’s even a timer function so you can have truly automatic blinds throughout the house.
There’s also an option to set schedules so that the Move can open every morning and close every night. In fact, you can also set them to perform open and close functions as a group, individually, or have multiple time schedules for different shades.
Currently, the Move is looking for funding through Kickstarter. If you pledge $28 ($1 off the retail), you’ll receive one Move device when shipments go out in February 2016. Of course, there are several other packages and rewards available. Check out the Move’s Kickstarter page before the campaign ends on Thursday, August 20, 2015.
