Looking for a way to beat the heat? Think about installing a programmable thermostat. Having one of these thermostats in the home can make sure the house is cool when you wake up or when you walk in the door. That said, it also makes sure you’re not wasting energy when out of the house.

Even better, this option is easy to install. Honeywell just announced the 7-Day Wi-Fi Programmable Thermostat, a WiFi-connected thermostat that allows you to monitor and control temperature from anywhere with a web browser.

Designed for DIYers, the unit provides remote access to multiple thermostats, temperature settings, system mode fan settings, and even 5-day forecasts.

Honeywell says that the WiFi thermostat works with smartphones and tablets, using Honeywell’s Total Connect Comfort Services app. Available free via the iTunes store or Google Play, the app also adds in the option for alerts.

“Using a programmable thermostat is the most cost-effective way for consumers to balance their comfort and the cost of energy. Our new Wi-Fi touchscreen thermostat is designed to help save the average homeowner up to $200 annually on heating and cooling. This means the thermostat can potentially pay for itself in less than a year,” said John Tyhacz, vice president and general manager for Honeywell’s Home Comfort and Energy Systems business. “Add to that Wi-Fi connectivity that allows homeowners to manage their home temperature and comfort from anywhere and you have a thermostat that packs a lot of value into an affordable price.”

The 7-Day Wi-Fi Programmable Thermostat is currently available for pre-order on HomeDepot.com and will be available at stores starting in August. Honeywell has listed the thermostat’s MSRP at $149. The company is planning to release additional WiFi thermostats in the coming months.
