This has been a pretty chilly winter so far. Some of you will retreat to warm beaches, while others opt to tough out those frigid temperatures with multiple blankets. While it may be easy for you to fight off the cold, your house is a different story.
A super-cold house can cause some major inconvenience — and we’re not talking about having to double up on socks. Low temperatures can cause pipes to freeze and burst. The end result isn’t fun or cheap.
Instead of waiting and leaving the water running, you could opt for something like the HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring System. This newly launched product can call, text and email users whenever a connected home gets too cold (or wet!) for comfort.
The system mixes a monitoring device and wireless sensors (known as “SPucks”) with a cloud-based application. The system can monitor up to 16 sensors, which boast five years of battery life. Once connected, homeowners can use the setup to check in on temperature, humidity, power status and even the presence of water — all from remote locations.
Unfortunately, the HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring System won’t help you out this winter. The product is scheduled to ship sometime this spring.
According to parent company Emerson Control Products, the HomeSitter monitoring device is expected to sell for $249, with the SPucks going for $29 each. The HomeSitter Cellular Monitoring System comes with three months of service, which can be accessed via a computer, a tablet or a smartphone. After that, you’ll have to pay a fee, which will start at $9 per month.
