Yamaha Unveils 3D 7.1-Channel Soundbar

The YSP-2200 has its own subwoofer, 7.1-channel True Cinema Sound and options for 3D.

Yamaha wants to pack a punch into your Friday, with its new YSP-2200 soundbar. Announced today, the YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector promises 7.1 surround sound without the need for a big audio setup.

At 3.5 inches high, this is Yamaha’s slimmest soundbar yet. It also comes matched with a 100-watt subwoofer, which is compact enough to sit on a shelf. For added convenience, the sub can be installed vertically or horizontally.

However, it’s what’s inside that soundbar that’s really interesting. The speaker packs in 16 speaker drivers, which are positioned to create the sound of surround sound, all without the need for the extra equipment.

The YSP-220 has 11 CINEMA DSP programs designed for gaming, music, movies, and other entertainment. It also has support for HD audio, such as DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD, making it perfect to pair with any Blu-ray setup.

Aside from the sound, another standout is this unit’s four HDMI 1.4a inputs. That allows for connections of up to four devices — four 3D-enabled devices, if you’d like. Other features include a Music Enhancer function, IntelliBeam Automated System Calibration, and a dock port for the optional YID-W10 Wireless Dock System for iPod/iPhone, the YDS-12 Universal Dock for iPod/iPhone, and the YBA-10 Bluetooth Wireless Audio Receiver.

The YSP-220 has yet to hit Yamaha’s USA website, but we did find product info on Yamaha Europe. That said, Yamaha’s YSP-2200 should be available now, for $999.95.
