Over the summer, Yamaha started making beautiful music (and a little competition in the consumer electronics market) with the MusicCast lineup. Now, there’s a new Yamaha receiver for that wireless multiroom audio mix.
The company just debuted the latest MusicCast product, the slimline RX-S601 Yamaha receiver. This component may look small, but it’s also pretty mighty. Measuring a little over 4 inches tall, this super-slim receiver can serve as the AV hub in any area—even ones that are short on space.
As mentoned, this Yamaha receiver is also a MusicCast receiver. That means that it can work with the company’s wireless multiroom audio platform and your existing WiFi network to stream music all over the house. The RX-S601 is one of 20 different MusicCast products expected before the end of this year. However, it also works with connected external components, including set-top boxes, Blu-ray players, and even turntables. The RX-S601 can even play high-resolution audio files, including DSD, WAV, FLAC and AIFF (up to 192 kHz/ 24-bit). It also has 4K Ultra HD pass-through with HDCP 2.2 support. Other features include Burr-Brown 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters, Yamaha’s Cinema DSP 3D processing, the company’s YPAO technology, built-in WiFi, AirPlay and DLNA. Also worth mentioning is that this component features support for Bluetooth as an input and an output. This allows you to stream content from Bluetooth devices to the receiver, as well as use the receiver to stream music to Bluetooth headphones, speakers and more.
“With the RX-S601, confined spaces are no longer a barrier to having a serious audio system in any room for the enjoyment of audio content with superior audio quality,” said Bob Goedken, general manager of Yamaha’s AV division. “With our game-changing MusicCast platform, in addition to onboard WiFi and Bluetooth input and output compatibility, this slimline AV receiver is a powerhouse that offers a new world of wireless freedom.”
The new slimline RX-S601 will start shipping sometime this month. The company has listed this Yamaha receiver with an MSRP of $649.95.
