Technics Plans Comeback with Pair of Hi-Fi Audio Systems

The new lineup will include the Technics R1 Reference-Class System and the Technics C700 Premium-Class System.

Technics Returns To North America

Don’t call it comeback! Well, you can actually. Last September, we told you that Panasonic was planning to resurrect the Technics brand—and they are certainly teasing that brand’s return. The company just launched a little bit of preliminary info about a pair of Hi-Fi audio systems, which will include the first new Technics products in six years.

Both of the new lines are based on the “Technics Definitive Sound” concept, which focuses on three elements. Accurate Digital Technology promises to deliver signal transmission with precise phase and gain characteristics, as well as ideal power conversion. Noiseless Signal Technology boasts reduced noise for digital audio. And finally, Emotive Acoustic Technology is all about a clear sound image and spacious soundstage with ultra-wide bandwidth and high dynamic range.

“We grow up repeatedly discovering and being moved by new types of music. However, as we get older, we get distracted by all the things going on in our lives and perhaps misplace the pure love of music,” said Michiko Ogawa, a former Technics audio engineer and popular jazz pianist in Japan. “Through the new Technics products, we are striving to offer listeners the feeling of rediscovering music by helping them to have such uniquely emotionally engaging experiences—ones that we seem to have lost.”

Of course, you can expect quality, but what about the actual products? The Technics Reference Class R1 Series will include the SE-R1 Stereo Power Amplifier, the SU-R1 Network Audio Control Player, and the SB-R1 Speaker System. The Technics Premium Class C700 Series will include the SU-C700 Stereo Integrated Amplifier, the ST-C700 Network Audio Player, the SL-C700 Compact Disc Player, and the SB-C700 Speaker System.

The Technics R1 Reference-Class System and the Technics C700 Premium-Class System will starting shipping in March. Pricing will be announced closer to each product’s actual launch date.
