Sony Launches Music Unlimited App for iOS

The new app promises 320kbps AAC high-quality audio streaming for the iPhone and iPod touch.

One of the unique things about Sony’s web-connected HDTVs and Blu-ray players is the Sony Music Unlimited service. While you may brush this off as just another monthly subscription, know that it is a very cool service — and one that’s now available on your iPhone and iPod touch.

Sony just announced plans to launch the service on those iOS devices. The new app promises 320kbps AAC high-quality audio streaming, as well as offline playback.

Having that offline option allows users to download playlists, albums, and individual songs for playback on a plane, while exercising, or for any other activity where you can’t or don’t want to use your data plan.

Music Unlimited hosts about 20 million songs, which are all available on-demand. Sony offers a free 30-day trial of the service. After that, expect to pay $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year for Premium access. There’s also an at-home plan available for $4.99 per month.

Sony’s Music Unlimited app is now available as a free download via the iTunes App Store. There’s also an Android version available at the Google Play Store.
