When Apple Music first debuted, it was fairly limited. Oh sure, it streamed almost any song you could imagine, but where it was able to stream those songs caused a bit of a stir. It wasn’t really compatible with home music systems—most notably Sonos. Now, the company is looking to change that.
Sonos just announced plans to start streaming Apple Music. Don’t get too excited yet, though. First of all, know that the service will launch in public beta, which means it won’t be available to everyone right off the bat. Also know that to experience Apple Music on Sonos, you’ll need to pay the $9.99 monthly subscription fee (after your free 3-month trial).
According to Sonos, an entire family can stream Apple Music (up to six accounts) to the company’s speakers, so you can take turns playing house DJ. There are also options to share songs and playlists.
The initial preview will allow Sonos users to tap into over 30 million tracks, as well as songs you’ve purchased and recommendations that have been hand-picked by artists, DJs, and Apple Music experts. Listeners can also access a wealth of curated playlists based on user preferences and Beats 1 radio programming.
“Streaming is bringing more music into everyone’s lives—and that’s a better life. The introduction of Apple Music marks an inflection point for streaming and its mass adoption,” said John MacFarlane, co-founder and chief executive officer at Sonos. “Now that we have access to virtually all the music on Earth, how music lovers listen to it is even more important. We are honored to bring Apple Music to Sonos listeners all over the world.”
To get in on the Apple Music beta program, you’ll need to sign up through the Sonos app—and sit tight. The beta will launch on December 15, 2015. Check out the Sonos website for more information.
