Review: Pioneer SP-PK52FS 5.1 Andrew Jones Loudspeaker System

Audioholics gives us a peek at this 5.1-channel home theater speaker setup.

Need a speaker upgrade? Some people don’t appreciate the cost or effort involved in mixing and matching a setup. Thankfully, there are plenty of package sets out there for purchase — and many of them are quite good.

Our friends at Audioholics just reviewed Pioneer’s SP-PK52FS 5.1 Andrew Jones Loudspeaker System. This setup includes two SP-FS52 floorstanding loudspeakers, a pair of SP-BS22-LR bookshelf speakes, a SP-C22 center channel, and the 100-watt, 8-inch SW-8MK2 subwoofer. Together, it makes for one mighty speaker setup, complete with bragging rights from Andrew Jones, Pioneer’s chief speaker engineer.

That’s not too shabby, given the set’s $549 MSRP. While Audioholics writer Gene DellaSala says that it would be nice to see what Jones “could do if Pioneer gave him 2-3 times the budget,” this 5.1 system seems to be well worth its price tag.

“Pioneer has redefined the budget loudspeaker genre and in this price bracket they are without peer,” says DellaSala. “Whether you’re dabbling into a budget two-channel or multi-channel system, you owe it to yourself to check these out. I commend Pioneer for offering such an affordable solution to whet budding audiophile appetites.”
