There are several wireless audio systems available today. The most popular option is probably Sonos. However, several competing products and systems have been popping up lately. A really interesting one is called the GoRave.
The GoRave is an installed multiroom music system that promises audio from any app on any device. That means you can play all of your personal music, as well as audio from apps such as Netflix, YouTube and Hulu Plus, as well as games, podcasts, and much more.
Designed and manufactured in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the GoRave doesn’t use WiFi or Bluetooth like a lot of the wireless music systems currently out there. Instead, it uses the SKAA wireless standard, which promises a high bit rate with no lossy compression.
Like Sonos, GoRave offers the option for a professional installation, which the company says could take about 30 minutes. However, a DIYer can definitely install this system, which can be purchased online.
The typical GoRave system includes an Audio Sender, which needs to be plugged into your smart device of choice. Then, it can wirelessly send audio to one of the company’s Audio Receivers—which are attached to your speakers.
According to the GoRave website, there are five system kits currently available. The least expensive ($1,799) three-zone wireless audio kit comes with one Audio Receiver, one USB Audio Sender, six speakers, and all of the hardware needed for the installation. The other kits are also available now and the various pieces can even be purchased separately.
