Control4′s New Switches Can Fill Your Home with Audio and Video

The new systems allow for more sources and easier integration.

Distributing audio and video signals all over a house take a lot of wires, work and time. Control4’s new family of A/V distribution switchers will let your installer get your system wired, programmed and running a lot faster.

What’s a Matrix Switcher and Why Do You Need One?

The new products include an audio matrix switcher, an HDMI matrix switcher and two zone amplifiers. All together, these products allow audio and video to be distributed around the house and operated via a Control4 home automation system touchpanel, apps (iOS or Android) or hand-held remotes.

The audio matrix switch includes 16 inputs and 16 analog outputs, allowing you to access up to 16 different sources (such as a wireless music bridge)in 16 independent zones (a room can be a zone or one room can even have multiple zones). The switch includes input gain control, audio sensing and ½ dB volume steps for smooth volume control. The unit supports Control4’s new SDDP technology, making it easy for your programmer to integrate it into your system.

The new zone amplifiers (available in 4-and 8-zone versions) can be connected to the audio matrix switch to power your local speakers and extend the system. They feature both individual zone stereo-level inputs and outputs, global inputs and outputs and input gain control. They deliver 30 watts per channel at 8 ohms, powered by Class D amplifiers. They also have input sensing and 12-volt triggers.

The HDMI matrix switch offers 8 inputs and outputs supporting 1080p and 3D video plus multichannel audio. The HDMI inputs are output as HDBaseT outputs, which then can be retranslated to HDMI (as well as control and LAN signals) with Control4’s HDBaseT receiver (balun). Why You Want HDBaseT
