Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 5: Now with Spotify!

The company has relaunched the digital music system with an upgrade.

Bang & Olufsen has decided to have another coming out party for its BeoSound 5 product. The digital music system is getting relaunched, now that it has Spotify.

B&O partnered up with the streaming music service to make 20 million songs available to BeoSound 5 owners. That sounds about right, given the BeoSound 5′s MSRP, which is a mere $6,324. Of course, you’re also going to need to pop for a Spotify Premium subscription, which costs $9.99 per month.

That said, it’s hard to put a price on so much music — especially on-demand music.

The BeoSound 5 can snag music from almost anywhere, including a networked NAS, DLNA devices, and anything with AirPlay and Bluetooth. Other features include access to 14,000 web radio stations, Bang & Olufsen’s patented MOTS (More Of the Same) feature, MP3 playback, and support for WMA and FLAC lossless files.

“Bang & Olufsen owners told us they wanted Spotify, and we listened,” says Theis Moerk, Bang & Olufsen’s category manager. “More and more consumers are choosing to stream their music, and in many markets streamed music outsells CDs. However, low bit rates have kept a lot of music fans on the fence. With Spotify now fully integrated into BeoSound 5, Bang & Olufsen owners have access to over 20 million songs in the best possible streaming quality. The partnership with Spotify is an important step in keeping Bang & Olufsen owners up to date with the growing availability of digital entertainment, and we look forward to further collaboration with Spotify in the future.”

Spotify is part of the new BeoSound 5 package right now. The company says that existing BeoSound 5 owners can also get the goods, via a free online software update.
