Polk Shows Off Buckle and Hinge Headphones

When we hear “buckle” or “hinge,” we can’t help but think of pointy shoes and butter churning. However, Polk Audio is looking to change the perception of those words with its new Buckle and Hinge Headphones.

As part of the company’s Heritage Collection, both of these new styles combine vintage Americana with audiophile sound. Each product has a chestnut or black shell with contrasting stitching and metal detailing. Inside, however, there are 40mm drivers and Polk Optimized Electro-acoustic Tuning (POET) technology.

It looks like the big difference between the two products is that the Hinge is more compact and can fold into a travel-size accessory. Other features on both include plush-padded ear cups, an ergonomic headband, and a 3-button volume control and microphone for use with iOS portables.

“Headphones are an extension of our individual style and personality,” said Michael DiTullo, Polk’s chief design officer. “We designed the Buckle and Hinge for the listener who wants an unparalleled Polk audio experience and who appreciates the authenticity and heritage of our brand. Every detail of these headphones was meticulously crafted including the stitching on the protein leather headbands, machined metal pivots, innovative three-button controls, and gold plated 3.5mm jacks and solid hinges — which complement the gold finish on the new iPhone 5S.”

Besides the new Buckle and Hinge models, Polk’s Heritage Collection also includes the Nue Era and Nue Voe in-ear headphones, both of which debuted back in July. The Buckle and Hinge are both available now, in black and silver or brown and gold finishes. The Buckle has an MSRP of $249, with the Hinge coming in at $149.
