When it comes to headphones, one size does not fit all. Maybe you love tight ear cups, loose headbands or even techno music. Some headphone products may be able to satisfy such a specific listener. Usually though, it’s pretty tough to find the perfect pair. Aiaiai wants you to make that perfect product, using the TMA-2 Modular Audiophile Headphones.
The hook on the TMA-2 Modular is that it can be whatever you want it to be. It’s not one single product, but 360. That’s because you can pick from a variety of components and combinations to design your perfect pair of headphones and the overall listening experience. You pick the headband, the earpads, the speaker units, and the cable.
Just log into the TMA-2 Modular configurator and choose from a range of preset models based on the company’s popular TMA-1 series. From there, you can peek at artist configurations, select headphones based on how you want to use them, pick your musical preferences, or just design something from scratch. Once you create your headphones, Aiaiai even lists the “Sound Profile,” so you’ll know what you’re getting into.
According to Aiaiai, the TMA-2 Modular Audiophile Headphones concept creates less waste—both for the environment and when it comes to your audio budget. When you inevitably sit on these headphones or allow the dog to treat them like a new chew toy, you won’t have to replace the entire product.
“I think this is a new way of thinking about headphones. First of all, the design has evolved but the evolution is a natural extension rather than a sudden, abrupt transformation. We’ve designed relatively subtle, new details, plugs and connections for modular flexibility, but it’s the overall idea of modularity that I think will capture everyone’s imagination,” says Lars Larsen from Kilo Design. “The major design change lies in the Modular solution and the freedom of choice it produces. Instead of designing the new we have continued the evolution from TMA-1 to TMA-2”
Aiaiai is selling TMA-2 Modular Audiophile Headphones now, starting at $145. Of course, that price will vary based on the bits and pieces that you pick.
