I have been fascinated by the tech media crushing HD DVD because WB left them.  Yes a huge blow, but not necessarily a death sentence.  I too have both players and quite a bid of software from both players.  I like everyone else has positives and negatives for both of them.  A couple of things that will not allow me…

So DigitalBits is saying that the NPD numbers show quite an impact created by the Warner announcement. For Week 1 of January, the hardware sales ratio (not counting PS3 or XBox HD DVD Addons) was 51.17% Blu-Ray to 48.83% HD DVD. But in Week 2, after the Warner announcement, the ratio (they claim) was 92.53% Blu-Ray to 7.47% HD DVD.…

Maarten, apparently you didn’t read my post. CONSUMERS DID DECIDE! They bought Blu-ray discs in numbers at least double that of HD-DVD. The time of studios offering their products on both platforms to see how they sell is OVER. It all happened over the last year. Did you miss the whole time when all the studios were releasing titles on…

So Ben, explain this to me (and I’m not challenging you, this is an honest question), how does this all work? Does a DVD duplication company pitch to a movie studio “Hey, we’ll pay you $x in order to produce and sell movie Y.” And then the duplication company puts the disks on store shelves and pockets any profit above…

And yet Vista still has NO built in codecs/support for either HD DVD or Blu-ray. This is a major “hole” in the offering, IMO. I know you can add third party software to do the task, but why would the flagship product from Microsoft not offer any native support for HD?

“I have to comment on I wish the film companies would just stay out of it, how does it in any way affect them what format their movie is purchased on? I keep trying to get my mind around this… a film company who is producing a product should stay out of the process of producing the product?  I mean,…

Steveo, I was referring to features Blu-Ray doesn’t have yet.  Blu-Ray has commentaries and other extras.  Someone was complaining about no PIP on Blu-Ray.  To me the idea of PIP on a video format is patently ridiculous.  The consumer market must not have thought it very important either, or else everyone would have bought HD-DVD so they could use PIP…

How will consumers be able to decide if they can only buy the movies they want in BluRay?
