I use a PS3 for Blu-Ray and the Xbox 360 add-on for HD-DVD. That doesn’t mean I didn’t choose one over the other, or mistakenly discovered my PS3 plays Blu-Rays. It just means I wasn’t foolish enough to buy two Blu-Ray devices when I can use the same one (the PS3) to play both Blu-Ray content and video games. I…

There is some good information here…but, none of the comments or system suggestions address proper viewing distances, the effects of ambient light on a front projector’s image quality, the issue of proper sound pressure levels in rooms of varying sizes, etc. (We use SMPTE specs when evaluating a given installation.) My point is, “one size does NOT fit all applications”.…

But to the consumer (or sheep, as you call them) there’s little economic difference between a $10 CD purchased on iTunes and a $15 movie (or $4 rental) streamed via satellite. It’s all just media, and just as owning a physical media has been shown to be unimportant with music, so it shall be shown with movies. So, no, I’m…

Last time I checked a Sherwood VR670 home theater speaker system with DVD could be purchased for under $300. J&R Music World has a quite respectable Toshiba 32” LCD for $699. So maybe it would be more interesting to see how much home theater you can get for under $1,000, which is still more than most mainstream consumers are used…

I am a Home Theater sales and Installation business owner, and we have installed complete custom installations for about 6k. This would include; 58” Plasma (wall mounted) Pioneer THX Certified Receiver, Monster Power Center, (5) JBL In-Ceiling Oval (Directional) Home Theater Speakers, JBL 500W Powered Sub. This article is overpriced, and is not taking the steady price drops of AV…

Hope you don’t have Comcast or you could find yourself contacted by their Abuse unit (I call them the Men in Black) and told to cut back on your bandwidth usage. They won’t tell you how much you can use, and they won’t tell you how much you need to cut back ... and if you don’t cut back enough,…

Oh for God’s sake. The content providers have decided on the next-generation HD media format and it’s Blu-ray. The reasons for the decision are IRRELEVANT! It’s done! Over! Finished! Six months from now the only HD DVD disks that you’ll be able to find will be in bargain-bins, on eBay or available by mail from some far-eastern company that’s converting…

@Joe T. iPod users are sheep - and you’re comparing apples to oranges here. There’s a difference between 5Meg song, and a 50 Gig high definition movie. I want to see how you’re going to let your friend borrow a movie that you have stored on a RAID drive… BTW - Ayn Rand may be dead, but her ideas certainly…

Here is a link to an article we did about shopping online for projectors, just in case anyone is interested.

I agree that these prices are highly exaggerated. Maybe this article was recycled from a few years ago? 1080p projectors can be had for as little as $1499 after rebate (though that particular deal might not be the best possible projector). And you certainly don’t need a professional to install your system. Our customers do it themselves all the time!…
