Dclaring Blu-ray the winner at this early stage of the market is not unlike declaring the winner of the New Hampshire primary based on the first precinct that opened just after midnight on primary day where the results were released about 1 am. I think there were fewer than 50 voters in that little town. Wait until the polls close…

All this talk about the demise of HD DVD is just silly. How many Walmart shoppers are going to buy a Blu-ray player for twice the price of an HD DVD machine? Current Blu-ray buyers are early adopters who are not terribly price-sensitive. They are not the masses. HD DVD has been in development for 10 years. Blu-ray development was…

I think HD DVD has the winning long term strategy. It has a better transitional strategy from standard DVD to high definition disks. HD DVD players are now priced the same as upconvert dvd players. The added advantages are that, while improving picture detail on standard DVDs that consumers are certainly not going to throw away, they get a high…

Seriously Joe - you are making so many assumptions about me, I don’t even know whether it’s worth replying (and from your numerous references painting me as a teen, I can only assume projection on your part). I’m 29, single, with no kids and plenty of cash to spend - so you may as well quit with your BS remarks. …

Joe T, once again you are missing the point. The AVERAGE consumer will eventually buy an HD player once the war ends and the fight becomes Blu-Ray or HD-DVD against DVD. Optical media will dominate the movie/computer market for at least 5-10 more years. If you really want to talk numbers here, let’s compare how many people have the bandwidth…

Dennis, what are you talking about? Blu-ray stand alone players outsold HD DVD standalone players in 2007. It’s a flat out lie to say that consumers who didn’t buy a PS3 chose HD DVD. In fact a lot of people bought the PS3 as a dedicated Blu-ray player which cut into the standalone sales, and Blu-ray still outsold HD DVD.…

(disclaimer: We do have an iPod in the house, but it belongs to my wife’s company because she had a client who wanted to publish podcasts, so it was needed for testing. And I think Cover Flow is pretty slick) Apple-flavored Kool-Aid? LOL, that’s pretty funny. No, I don’t think that Apple is quite there yet. I think v2 of…

I’m a little confused by the headline of this article. It didn’t’ really address the topic. Are you calling for a consumer-driven revolt because the industries involved have overwhelmingly chosen Blu-ray? I also don’t buy into this argument the HD DVD side has created trying to make themselves out to be altruistic standard-bearers of the consumer. They took this role…
