Mr.Audio, if you hate the articles here so much, why do you keep coming back? Just enjoy being a troll? I’d think your time would be more valuable than that. I really think “read the manual” is pretty much implied by suggestions such as: “find out how much power [...] as well as the total amount of power that will…

It certainly is.  However, the whole article could have been way more effective by simply making the first point to read all manuals completely. Then go on to the real common pitfals such as speaker placement and positioning.  My point is to the EH staff is to write about something that is cannot be known from reading the operator’s manuals. …

Don’t give a fig about MS Media Center--why turn over everything A/V to Microsoft? I really care about robustness and security when it comes to setting up a PC as the network core of your home A/V environment, hence my preference for XP Pro.  Couldn’t get an ATI card, maybe next time. Why not overclock?  The configuration I set up…

Soundzilla, That’s the trouble right there. Instead of lowering cost on hardware and gaining a bigger following, Blu Ray has “captured” studios and offered loss leader sales on media. Anyone with a lick of sense knows it’s more business savvy to to sell 10,000,000 things for $1 that to try and sell 10 things for $1,000,000 each. So instead of…

so, um, the owner’s lied about the price? why? $70k seems pretty realistic, none of the equipment is over-the-top, though the screen is pretty nice. motorized chairs nice too, but only 6 of them. it doesn’t look to be a huge theater either (relative to some). and as for component prices, we both know those change every day - example:…

Uh, you don’t get media center with XP Pro SP2. There are much better fans out there than the Zalman. The Radeon 2600’s come with Audio over HDMI. This article is IMO leading readers down an incorrect path for a true MMPC/HTPC experience. If it is truly an HTPC, who cares about overclocking. Cool and Quiet is the key factor…

Thanks again Mr. Audio for the positive and constructive feedback. Here’s one question to ponder. Is it possible that not everyone possesses your immense wealth of knowledge?

HD-DVD players are already cheaper than Blu-ray players but Blu-ray discs consistently outsell HD-DVD discs.

“They could give these things away for free but unless the HD-DVD media starts outselling Blu-ray media it isn’t going to matter how many people have players. That’s kinda the point, dontcha think? Having hardware at 1/2 the price IS like “giving them away"… If you GAVE me a Blu Ray player I’d buy a buncha BR media. So don’t…
