YouTube Downloads
A few YouTube videos are now being offered as H.264-encoded downloads.

Sometimes it’s not enough to waste hours watching YouTube. For just those situations, the site is now allowing users to download some of its videos.

Just don’t expect to start downloading “Price is Right” clips and “American Idol” castoffs. Right now, only a few videos have the option. For now, you can sample the feature with President-elect Barack Obama’s ChangeDotGov Channel. There is a small “Click to download” link right under the pause button. Ars Technica says your video will come in the H.264 format.

Unfortunately, you can’t be a pioneer and offer your home videos for all to enjoy, either. The site isn’t giving users the option to make their videos downloadable—for now. There’s no word on when it might be available across the entire site.

Of course, many sites already offer this feature. One of them, Google Video, just announced it would soon stop accepting video. However, they might be directing downloaders/uploaders to YouTube. Google bought the sharing site back in 2006.
