Most Blu-ray players have become multitaskers. A lot of those options can play different types of discs, as well as stream select web-enabled services. Yamaha is going one step further, by adding the option to stream from select mobile devices.
The company just announced the BD-S477, a brand-new Blu-ray player that can do Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs. It’s not exactly a universal player, but it can deliver a lot of different content, thanks to the built-in Wi-Fi and Miracast.
This allows the Blu-ray player to stream video, music and game content from compatible mobile devices, as well as the Internet. It can also tap into digital images via Picasa Web Albums.
The BD-S477 has a front-panel USB port, DLNA certification, and support for 192kHz/24-bit FLAC and ALAC file playback. It’s also compatible with Yamaha’s AV Controller app for iOS and Android devices.
