XpanD Expands 3D Glasses Lineup with $129 X102 Model
The company's DLP-Link Stereoscopic Active 3D glasses are designed for use with DLP projectors and TVs.

Oh those 3D glasses—get over it already, you still need them.

But if you have a 3D TV or projector, or are planning to purchase one, at least you can save a few bucks. XpanD has just come out with its second-generation X102 DLP-Link Active Shutter 3D Glasses, with pricing of $129 that falls smack-dab between $99 models we’ve seen from ViewSonic and versions from Samsung and Panasonic that run around $150 (when you purchase separately from the one or two pairs that come with their 3D TVs, depending on brand).

The company worked with Texas Instruments to incorporate the DLP Digital Micro-Mirror Device Technology to sync its glasses with DLP projectors and TVs without any extra technology, such as an emitter, necessary.

XpanD says the glasses work with 3D-ready DLP displays within a lengthy range of 140 feet, so they should be good to go with your projector or maybe that crazy-big 82-inch DLP set from Mitsubishi. Yes, remember that 3D-ready displays aren’t just flat panels, and that you can get a lot of bang for your 3D budget with some alternatives.

“The 50-plus 3D-ready projectors on their way into the market from top manufacturers have an average price nearing US $700,” says Ami Dror, chief strategy officer for XpanD. “This technology, paired with the X102 glasses, is the most economical choice for families looking to invest in their in-home 3D systems, with no sacrifice in quality.”
