Microsoft will soon drop prices on its 20GB Xbox 360. A new 60GB model will follow next month.
Microsoft has a new marketing plan: low-low prices for all!
They’ve dropped the price on the 20GB Xbox 360. The console, which previously sold for $349, is now going for $299. It’s still not quite Wii prices, but it’s slightly more enticing than the PS3’s $400 price tag.
Of course, that’s assuming that you don’t want Blu-ray.
If you don’t want to drop full price for a PS3, but feel like spending that extra 50, the company is also planning to release a new 60GB model next month.
The announcement is breaking the seal on the flood of gaming news expected from this week’s E3 show.
Rumors have been swirling about the PS3 as well—that we won’t expect to see any price cuts. Sony recently displayed sales numbers that show that the company has been taking a hit on the PS3, to the tune of $3.3 billion.

Shacknews Quote:
“It seems that $299 price point isn’t a permanent one though, as Microsoft points out the $50 drop is one of the “while supplies last” variety. This could indicate that once sold out, the only SKUs will be the $279 HDD-less Arcade system, the $349 60GB Premium system, and the $449 120GB Elite.”
...And if the 20gb is dropping to $299, what becomes of the Arcade Version (with only the 512mb card and no HDD?) price wise. I realize everything shifts down a notch, and Arcade will likely become the 20gb model, but how cheap can i score an Arcade in the coming days?
Hey North: What don’t you see mentioned? I did see the $299 price on Amazon. However, the new model won’t be out until next month… I know Amazon is not taking orders yet. Not sure if anyone else is…
Don’t see it mentioned - it is only temporary until those older models are out of stock then the price will be the same as it was before just with newer upgraded models.
