Comic book series that turn into movie series are as hit or miss as Hollywood gets—you generally love ‘em or hate ‘em—and the studios continue to crank them out. We’ve certainly come a long way in the 30-plus years since Superman’s release in terms of production, but the story isn’t always there (we’re looking at you, Spider-Man 3).
One of the best series to come out of Hollywood’s love of comic books is the X-Men series. It’s been generally entertaining from the start. And now all four films can be yours to enjoy in widescreen CinemaScope aspect ratio for your home theater on Blu-ray. Right now the box set is on sale at Amazon for $61, according to Blu-ray.com.
If you want a different type of movie trilogy to catch on Blu-ray, and scare the bejeezers out of you, grab the Hannibal Lecter package that includes Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal.
Silence of the Lambs is one of a few Oscar-winning Best Pictures out this week on Blu-ray. You may have checked out Casablanca on HD DVD, a release that was lauded for its restoration and incredibly detailed black and white images in the high-def format, this week out on Blu-ray. Also, look for a director’s cut of Amadeus, a fine effort from a director who was full of them, Milos Forman.
Here are all of this week’s releases, courtesy of Blu-ray.com:
Amadeus: The Director’s Cut
An American Werewolf in London
Army of Darkness
The Battle: Cinco de Mayo
Crash: The Complete First Season
The Hannibal Lecter Collection (Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal)
The Legend of Drunken Master
My Name Is Earl: Season 4
The Wonder of It All
Wrong Turn 2
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
X-Men Trilogy + X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman
