In the market for some extra peace of mind? Maybe you’re looking to add some smart features to your home security.

Even if you don’t have a fancy alarm system, you can beef up the locks and deadbolts, and even control them with a remote—and get alerts when your kids are safely into the house after school—with Schlage’s LiNK System. The company’s just made it easier for the masses to enjoy, making it available on the Lowe’s website.

Currently the Schlage LiNK page includes a dozen offerings, at either $199 or $299—you get the full shebang starter kit for $299, with additional deadbolts and locks for $199.

With the starter kit you’ll have one LiNK deadbolt or lock, the network communications bridge, and a Light Module for remotely controlling a plugged-in lamp. Because the system employs Z-Wave wireless technology, the Bridge links in to your home’s existing router for even more control options.

Using Schlage LiNK, you can engage keyless entry through a 4-digit code on the lock, or even with an iPhone or BlackBerry or other web-enabled phone. There’s a $12.99 monthly subscription fee that gives you access to the Schlage LiNK portal, where you can integrate other Z-Wave devices like thermostats and security cameras, and you’ll be able to receive emails or texts when specific codes are entered on the locks—like when your child gets home from school.

You can even make temporary codes for visitor access like your cleaners or contractors.

The company says installation only takes about 30 minutes, with a screwdriver the only tool, and the new lock system will run on four AA batteries for three years. Then you just have to register online and start relaxing with more home security. Comes in aged bronze, satin nickel and bright brass.
