English company Wharfedale has something cozy for your home theater setup. The company just announced the DX-1 HCP (Home Cinema Package). Although it’s compact, this package is designed to crank, thanks to four satellite speakers, a center channel, and a compact active subwoofer.
All of the speakers are modeled after the company’s Diamond 10.1 stand-mount speakers. They’ve got the curved cabinets and the silver-finished cone surrounds. These are just smaller, coming in at a mere 7.5 inches.
Each of those satellites packs in a 0.75-inch (19mm) silk dome tweeter and a 3-inch (75mm) mid/bass driver with a woven polypropylene cone. The closed-box design means that the speakers can sit closely to the wall, without that position affecting the performance.
The center-channel speaker has two of the same 3-inch mid/bass drivers flanking the same tweeter. It also has something called an aperiodic loading system, which has a vent filled with resistive porous foam. It’s designed to control airflow and aid bass response.
Last, but certainly not least, the subwoofer combines a 7.87-inch (200mm) long-throw bass cone with a 150-watt Class D amp in a package that measures 13.2 by 11.2 by 12.6 inches.
Wharfedale will start selling the DX-1 HCP this month. It will be available in both black and white, with the MSRP listed as £399.95 (about $632 U.S.).
