Westinghouse Shows Off New Series of LCDs
Portable LCDs, HDTV/DVD combo units, and 1080p displays highlight several new lines by Westinghouse Digital.
The unique VK-40F580D HDTV/DVD combo unit features 1080p resolution and is currently the only 40-in. 1080p all-in-one solution on the market.

TX 1080p LCD HDTVs
Westinghouse Digital is also offering an advanced new line of 1080p LCD HDTV’s, the TX Series that includes a new 40-in. 1080p HDTV/DVD Combo. Designed for the consumer who wants to finally step up to the cinema experience, Westinghouse 1080p TX TVs are available in 42-in., 47-in. and 52-in. screen sizes. According to the company, the TX series TVs are the ideal centerpiece for any digital entertainment system, whether in a home theater setting, living room or large bedroom. The 42-in., 47-in. and 52-in. TVs all provide: 1920 x 1080 progressive scan (1080p) resolution, the highest standard available to consumers for HD digital video display; an integrated ATSC/NTSC/ClearQAM Tuner; fast response times; and a full suite of connectors, including: four HDMI, two Component, Composite, S-Video and 1 VGA. 

The TX TVs deliver sharp images with their Full Color Spectrum and High Contrast Picture, which creates deeper blacks and richer dark scene details by dynamically matching the brightness of the TV backlight to that of the on-screen image. The Advanced Calibration Menu further allows the users to make advanced adjustments to calibration settings including colorimetry and the Preset Video Modes give users the ability to select from a menu of customized viewing styles including movies, games and sports. 

All of the new TX models incorporate the several Westinghouse proprietary technologies, including: SpineDesign intelligent cable access; DayBright panel technology for stunning daytime or nighttime viewing; and Autosource technology, intelligent engineering that automatically turns the TV on and adjusts it when an external source that is detected. The built-in stereo speakers ensure a captivating sonic experience from richly detailed musical passages to metal twisting car chases. The 52-in. TX-52F480S also includes a subwoofer. The TX Series includes: the 42-in. TX-42F430S LCD HDTV ($1,199); the 47-in. TX-47F430S LCD HDTV ($1,599); and the 52-in. TX-52F480S LCD HDTV ($1,999). 

1080p HDTV/DVD Combo
The unique VK-40F580D HDTV/DVD combo unit also features 1080p resolution to provide the highest screen resolution to consumers for an HD digital video display. As far as I know, this is currently the only 40-in. 1080p all-in-one solution.  The VK-40F580D includes an integrated Front Loading upconverting DVD Player that utilizes Westinghouse Digital’s PixelDirect technology to deliver DVD video to the screen using a direct path (the shortest path possible) and the least amount of signal processing. It upscales standard DVDs to 1080p resolution on the screen. It also provides the consumer with multiple HD input connectors including 2 HDMI, an ATSC/NTSC/ClearQAM tuner and preset and custom video modes for an exceptional viewing experience. The VK-40F580D is priced at $1,099.
