Bob Weir doesn’t need a miracle every day to give his audiophile ears some listening pleasure. When the former Grateful Dead guitarist/vocalist isn’t playin’ in the band on his tours with current gigs Ratdog and Furthur (both of which serve up big doses of Dead material, of course), Weir can hang in his home studio and sunshine daydream while cranking up a McIntosh Labs-fueled audio system.
It’s not often we get a peek into the home rigs of musicians, so we were happy McIntosh sent along a photo and some info on Weir (you can check out www.furthur.net for upcoming tour dates), who’s still knocking on the golden door of northern California as his home.
Weir and the rest of the Grateful Dead got a taste of McIntosh’s spoils as the renowned Binghamton, N.Y., audio company had a big hand in the setup of the band’s legendary “Wall of Sound” that it started rocking out to audiences in 1974.
Now the music never stops for Weir with McIntosh goodies such as the company’s new MX150 A/V Control Center and the MXA60 Integrated Audio System (pictured next to Weir, at right), released as part of the company’s 60th anniversary celebration.
We don’t know if the rest of Weir’s home has a system like one of our favorite DIYer’s million-dollar McIntosh setup or this sweet Mac-driven theater, but we’re guessing he has plenty of listening options to keep him truckin’ with reference-grade music on SACD, HDCD, DVD-A, CD and maybe even vinyl (I’m thinking there’s a good likelihood Weir spins it around and around on one of McIntosh’s sweet MT10 turntables).
Despite its saint of circumstance as a compact audio system, the MXA60 can deliver a much larger sounding musical bang to serve as a mini wall of sound for Weir when he’s not on tour, thanks to its 75-watt amp and tube-based preamp. Weir definitely wouldn’t rather be in some dark hollow than jamming to his McIntosh A/V system; he may be going to hell in a bucket, but at least he’s enjoying the ride (but please, Bobby, shave the beard already).

For those of you keeping score at home, that’s 10 Dead references (Weir leads, obviously) above. Since we couldn’t find a way to fit in Jack Straw, here’s a bonus YouTube video:

Sid,, we could go on on on..I could say things like the deregulation and loosening of the lending happened during Clinton, that Dems were in control during Bush’s last 2 years and repeatly said nothing was wrong with Fannie Mae (they had the oversight). Look - I don’t trust the politicians. They are playing a game for power - Bush did a lot wrong - but a lot right. But just look at what is going on..the spending, the entitlements, the markets will burst further over this debt even further, interests rates will have to rise. This is not good and spending will not bring us back. Stop blaming the past and look what is happening now. No smart economist is agreeing with the spending. Blaming Bush is too easy - we need a real fix. (BTW, considering the articles in Electronic house, these posts might actually help subscriptions)
Come on Stevie, you’re a denier too! Do you remember where we were at the end of Bush’s final year. I certainly remember. I lost 35G from my 401K(many citizens lost much much more) Steve, we were at the edge of the abyss. Who was the cause of that? Bush and his deregulation of everything but the dog show.Again, what would you have advised Pres.Obama to fix the huge hole we were in?Why do republicans refuse to answer a question. BTW, Limbaugh, Beck, and Fox News(Lol!) don’t offer anything but nonsensical ranting. Didn’t your mamma tell you that you don’t give the keys back to those that drove us into the ditch.
I don’t think the moderators appreciate us discussing politics so we should stick to electronics here.
Sid…‘it moves the country forward’ ‘unprecedented problems’ thats rich. How much are they paying you for this line. Do you really think we are solving any problems by spending more and more? So you really believe thats the solution? Obama’s short term so far put us into 4x the debt Bush did over 8 years - 4x!!!!!! THATS the UNPRECEDENTED PROBLEM that you, I and our future generations will inherit. You must be 18 or 19 yrs old. Government spending will not work to fix anything - just create more problems. - there are solutions - tough ones, but all we get is spend more to get more votes for Obama
I see you’re a tea party member Steve. You don’t want to help your neighbor that has no health care or is desperate for his unemployment benefits. Of course it costs $ but in the long term it moves this country forward. If you were an advisor to Obama when he came into office and had to address the unprecedented problems he inherited, what would you have advised him to do? I hear silence. The only thing concrete you offer is your brain.

Alright! We actually agree on a lot. Yeah, I don’t trust politicians either, they mostly look out only for their OWN interests. I guess they are a necessary evil in a democracy. You made me laugh about how we liven up the articles here. Anyway, I’m off to bike ride and try to lose some tonnage.
