Web Site Helps Guide Consumers to Installers
Trade group CEDIA aims to educate consumers on home system technology and connect them with qualified installers.

You might recognize the CEDIA logo if you’ve had electronics installed in your home.

Maybe it was on the corner of the installer’s van. Maybe the guy dropped a CEDIA pen behind your TV and you still have it in your junk drawer.

For the most part, though, consumers tend not to know much about the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association, which trains and certifies home systems installers, a.k.a custom electronics professionals or CE pros.

The trade group hopes to make more connections with consumers. This week it launched a redesign of CEDIA.net with a primary focus toward you, instead of its traditional focus toward installers.

“When clients come to our Web site, we want them to be able to find a CEDIA member,” says CEDIA director of public relations and marketing Jamie Antcliff.

To that end, CEDIA has a search tool on its homepage that allows consumers to enter a zip code to find certified CEDIA installation companies in their area.

Also on the home page, is a “Homeowner” button. This section aims to educate consumers on why a CEDIA member might be a good choice for their home technology needs.

It features technology tips that might help them to ask the right questions when meeting with installation companies. It also features a video of a “Designing Spaces” segment in which the value of CEDIA certified installers is touted.

Clearly, CEDIA hopes to become more of a resource for consumers researching home technology and installation.
