Warner Lowering Blu-ray Title Costs to Retailers
A rebate program should help lower costs to consumers on catalog and newer Blu-ray releases from Warner Home Video.
July 15, 2008 | by Arlen Schweiger

For everyone clamoring for lower Blu-ray disc prices (and of course, lower player prices), Warner Home Video has some exciting news. Starting in September it’s offering a point-of-sale rebate program to retailers for them to get participating catalog titles for about $11.

That means you’ll get plenty of good movies, without relying on BOGO sales and the like, for a little bit more than that when you factor in the retail mark-up.

A taste of the featured catalog titles includes: The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, The Fugitive, Enter the Dragon, The Aviator, Road Warrior and Swordfish.

Warner will reportedly dole out rebates to a lesser extent on newer Blu-ray releases—like I Am Legend, 300, The Departed and Ocean’s 13—bringing the consumer price on those to about $17 to $20.

The program is scheduled to run from September into the first quarter of 2009. No word on how many titles will be affected, but hopefully other studios will follow suit.

Let us know when you start seeing some of the price cuts on the store shelves.

Hope this become a trend, and perfect timing for me I’m just bought my first BD player.
