Walmart says it’s bulking up its 1080p and Blu-ray offerings.
As promised, Walmart began its 3,500 store electronics upgrade this week.
The prolific big-box retailer is looking to fill an electronics retail void left by the departure of former No. 2 U.S. electronics retailer Circuit City and national specialty electronics chain Tweeter.
Clearly, Walmart is looking to derail former Circuit City and Tweeter customers before they make their way to Best Buy, the No. 1 U.S. electronics retailer. However, Walmart isn’t traditionally known for its electronics products expertise or quality selection.
That’s changing, according to Gary Severson, senior vice president, home entertainment, Walmart. “We’ve made a number of significant changes in the last three years to raise the bar in our offerings and gain consumer confidence and trust as an electronics destination.”
