Vutec SilverStar Screens Ready for 3D
The screen manufacturer's high-gain models help offset light loss from 3D imagery and work well in a variety of lighting conditions.

Display technology is all about 3D these days. That includes projection systems for your home theaters.

Only there are a few more variables you have to keep an eye on if you’re going projection over 3D televisions. Like any dedicated theater environment, you’ll want to ensure that lighting is kept in check, or controllable, so the image isn’t washed out. Then, of course, there are the projector and screen to consider.

Vutec’s SilverStar could be the screen star you’re looking for when it comes to 3D. The company has been working on active 3D screen technologies since 1980 that compensate for such 50 percent light loss when you’re dealing with stereoscopic 3D imagery. Whereas many screens boost the brightness of projection with gains of 1.0, 1.3, etc., the SilverStar features Vutec’s patented 6.0 high screen gain.

That’s for active 3D viewing—Vutec is also unveiling this week at InfoComm its SilverStar 3D-P screens for passive 3D viewing.

The high gain also means you don’t have to be sitting in a completely dark room to enjoy the projected images, which helps because not every room was meant to be a theater. The SilverStar series also features wide 180-degree viewing area, which becomes especially important with 3D setups for people sitting in the outer theater chairs, as well as high contrast to take advantage of fine projection detail.

Vutec ships the screens fully assembled and offers in standard sizes of 92, 103, 110 and 123 inches in 16:9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio or 115, 129, 138 and 153 inches for 2.35:1; custom sizes are also doable from the Florida company.
