VUDU is offering its iPhone/iPod touch app for free via iTunes.
VUDU is certainly the set-top that won’t die—not that there’s anything wrong with that. Instead, they keep adding a plethora of new products, apps and pricing deals to keep this solution intriguing. This time, it’s a download for all you iPhone and iPod touch owners out there.
The free download will allow portable users to browse VUDU selections, and begin a download, all while on the go. Engadget HD says the whole process is pretty speedy, and will save you from waiting on downloads while at home.
It sounds pretty cool, but some forumites are griping that you can’t create wishlists from your portable. It’s the first round, so you have to cut them some slack. Maybe the next version will add a little more functionality, including a remote ratings system. Still, it’s pretty exciting not to have to wait—especially for some of those HDX titles.
First announced back in October, HDX is a video format that promises full 1080p at 24 frames per second to screens 40 inches and up—all via the web. Currently, VUDU does not charge an additional fee for HDX titles.
