Another one bites the plasma dust. Less than a week after it was reported that Pioneer would be dropping out of the plasma TV business, Vizio is apparently following in the footsteps.
Company co-founder Laynie Newsome told The New York Times that, among other things, plasmas didn’t look as hot on the retail shelves compared with the picture on LCD screens, and that Vizio would dedicate its space to the technology that was selling better.
Back at CES in January, Vizio was riding the latest TV trends, as it announced it would be producing an Internet-connected TV later this year. It had also continued to embrace the energy-friendly LCD area with TV launches late last year, including its EcoHD TV.
Newsome added that the company’s plasma TVs are almost out of stock at this point, so you better get ‘em while supplies last. Then again, you could always try to win one of the very well-stocked 55-inch LCDs Vizio’s giving away this year.
