Vivitek Shows Industry’s First 1080p LED Projector at CES 2009
HC7500A offers 700 lumens of brightness, a 35000:1 contrast ratio and a LED light source estimated at more than 20,000 hours.
January 08, 2009 | by Steve Crowe

Vivitek is showing its HC7500A Projector here at CES 2009, claiming it to be the industry’s first 1080p, LED projector.

The HC7500A DLP projector offers 700 lumens of brightness, a 35000:1 contrast ratio, full HD (1920x1080) and widescreen capabilities.

It features a curved design and centered lens with a footprint about the size of a small laptop, making it easy for out-of-site mounting, Vivitek says.

Vivitek, which recently entered the digital signage market, says the HC7500A boasts low-energy features, including a lamp-free, LED light source estimated at more than 20,000 hours.

The HC7500A has a variety of ports, including dual, all-digital HDMI connections.

Vivitek will ship the HC7500A in early June.

MSRP: $13,999

Vivitek D5500 Projector
Vivitek is also displaying the D5500 Projector, it’s first projector for long-term install applications such as auditoriums and other large venues.

The single-chip DLP projector offers a XGA (1024x768) resolution and a 2500:1 contrast ratio.

It also features:

  • Texas Instruments BrilliantColor technology and a 6-segment color wheel
  • Dual lamps (lamp life of 4,000 hours) and dual-lamp switching mode to ensure performance should one lamp fail
  • Vertical and horizontal lens correction

“Brightness, clarity, and functionality are the feature requests we get most often from our installation projector customers,” says Vivitek president David Chiu. “With the new D5500, we have addressed all of these expectations.”

Connectivity includes: RJ45, PC inputs (DVI-D and VGA), BNC, component, composite and S-video. It also has a USB port and an RS-232 connection.

It has a remote control and four optional short and long throw lenses. The D5500 is now available from Vivitek dealers and distributors nationwide.

MSRP: $5,999

way too expensive with all the other 1080ps dropping prices like crazy.

Yup, both these PJ’s are crap (for now).
As I said in another post, with a decent lamp costing $450 and @ 2000 hours, for the price of this LED PJ, you can have a Panasonic 1080p, 60,000:1 CR and 50,000 hours of life with changing new lamps. Users rate lamps lasting either longer or shorter than 2000 hours so we can use this as an average.
Where is the incentive? Oh, thats right, Vivitek is renowned for making amazing projectors !?!?! hehe

$6000 for an XGA (1024x768 res) just because it has two lamps????? Um, I can buy 5 XGA projectors for that price and guess how many lamps that is??? hehehe
My 2 cents…

LEDDLP from Vivetek is POS
Because white led and color wheel…

Clever design utilize RGB LED without color wheel.

Cool,  I was hoping someone would release a LED lit projector… now I just need the price to drop in half, so I can actually buy one.  I didn’t expect it to be this much money, as I figured it would have fewer LED’s than a LCD with LED backlighting… either I was wrong, or innovation has a way too hefty price in my opinion.
