We’ve seen a lot of connected appliances lately—and we don’t mean just lights. Recently, Belkin announced plans for a connected crockpot and Samsung says that smartphone-enabled laundry is on its way. Now, Viking Range is planning to offer a connected oven.

Now, we’ve seen connected ovens before. However, this one is a project in conjunction with iDevices. The two companies have been working on a wireless temperature monitoring system for the new Viking Professional 7 Series Range. A smart Bluetooth temperature-monitoring device will also be retrofitted into the Viking 7 Series Range.

The smart setup will allow connected chefs to tap into their creations using a wireless temperature monitoring system, the Viking temperature probe, and the free iDevices Connected app. The probe keeps tabs on whatever is cooking and will send out an alert once the food has reached the right temperature.

The iDevices Connected app is currently available for iOS devices, with an Android version coming later this year. The app also features exclusive recipes, temperature graphing, social sharing, and customizable timers.

“The Internet of Things is experiencing unprecedented growth and consumer brands are quickly realizing the need to develop products to meet consumer demand,” said Chris Allen, chief executive officer of iDevices. “This relationship demonstrates the advancement of the technology and the role it will play in consumers’ everyday lives.”

The Viking Professional 7 Series Range includes 23,000 BTU Elevation Burners with brass flame ports, as well as a full-featured convection oven.
