The 1080p plasma offerings from Vidikron just got bigger. Adding to its lineup of 42-, 50- and 60-inch plasma displays, the company has introduced its 65-inch VP-6500VHD model.

The new plasma is the first in the series to provide true 1920x1080 (1080p) resolution, and is also the first plasma display to earn the high standard of THX certification, the company says.

Along with Vidikron’s brightest picture, highest contrast ratio and deepest black levels yet available, the company says the VP-6500VHD incorporates 16-bit digital video processing to minimize the “solarization” or “stair stepping” that can hamper digital flat panel displays.

Vidikron also touts the plasma’s ability to show all 4:3 content in 16:9 widescreen format without appreciable picture degradation, due to the company’s IntelliWide mode and VHD controller’s Imagix video processing.

And if all that isn’t enough, for people looking for a 65-inch plasma display in their mountain retreats, Vidikron also offers the VP-6500VHDa model, featuring high altitude plasma performance to over 9,000 feet above sea level.
