VidaBox Unveils Touch3.6, vPad8 Touchscreen Tablet
Touch3.6 controls any device with RS-232, TCP/IP and IR via vAutomation.
January 08, 2009 | by Steve Crowe

VidaBox has unveiled its Touch3.6 here at CES 2009, a full-color touchpad with an interactive, customizable interface.

The Touch3.6 (320x234 resolution) controls any device with RS-232, TCP/IP, IR and other control protocols via the vAutomation platform.

A single CAT cable and power-over-Ethernet is needed. vController is used for the brains of the Touch3.6, processing selections and changing the units interface.

“Integrators can finally install a double-gang sized panel to control anything in the house — lighting, security, climate, shades, whole house AV, and more,” says VidaBox president Steven Cheung.

The Touch3.6 will ship in February to dealers who’ve completed vAutomation training.

vPad8 Touchscreen Tablet
VidaBox also unveiled its vPad8, an “ultra-mobile tablet PC” that runs on Windows XP.

It has a color touch screen (800x600 resolution) and comes with Wi-Fi connectivity. When combined with CQC and vAutomation, the vPad8 controls lights, security, climate and turn devices on or off in each room from any location.

The vPad8 sends out commands via RS-232, TCP/IP, IR and other protocols.

VidaBox says the vPad8 is a “smaller, less bulky version” of the vPad10. The vPad8 offers:

  • Built-in 802.11b/g
  • A docking station that doubles as a charging cradle
  • Solid state storage with fanless operation

“We’ve also added some improvements like a brighter screen for easier legibility in direct light, and optional protective rubber bumpers, making it extremely durable.”

The vPad8 is now available.
