Verizon’s Fios TV Service Passes 1 Million Subscribers
Verizon's Fios ranks the company as the 10th largest cable provider in the U.S.
January 28, 2008 | by Arlen Schweiger

How do you get your high-definition TV?

Apparently, a lot more of you have steered toward Verizon’s Fios TV service. The company announced on Monday that it surpassed the one million subscriber mark in January (it passed the mark for its Internet service last June).

That makes Verizon the 10th largest cable provider in the U.S., the company says, a little bit behind No. 9 Mediacom Communications.

The service is available in parts of California, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas and Virginia. Unfortunately not my part of Massachusetts.

Well, maybe it’ll get to my home sometime this year, in which Verizon says it has a goal of “providing 150 HD channels by the end of 2008.”

Let us know what you think of Verizon compared with other cable companies’ service or satellite service.

Verizon FiOS is simply amazing. I have not had one single outage in 6 months of service. I love that if you buy any movie channel, On Demand for that channel is included. Not so with other cable companies. What I dislike; Their website, the phone support… they are terrible. Installation is another process that was sub-par. It was an 8 hour, two shift debacle where I actually had to help their technicians do the install. Then their techs couldn’t even set my last PC up. He left saying he had to go to dinner, at 9 PM.

Even though I double checked my service offerings they still managed to screw that up. That’s where I enjoyed the horrible phone support. I was shuffled around Verizon like a hockey puck. They did make good, and since that day, everything has been fine. I never did get my $100.00 gift card, and I’m not about to call in about it. It’s not worth the hassle.

That said, the HDTV and SDTV are amazing. The audio is perfect. The HS Internet and phone offerings are great. They are just another company with too many layers of nonsense, but top notch product.
